Technology of Strengthening of Foundation Bases under Cramped Conditions When Overbuilding Four Additional Stories

Electric discharge technology (EDT) has wide opportunities in geotechnical construction. It has a number of technological advantages. EDT drilling and injection piles have increased bearing capacity, both relating to the ground and to the material, due to the maximum inclusion of the ground surrounding the pile into the joint work. Unlike other types of piles, the cross-section of the EDT pile has additional cementation and compaction zones. Due to these zones, the specific bearing capacity of these piles on the ground is two or more times greater than the bearing capacity of other types of piles. This property is especially important when reconstructing objects in the case of floors overbuilding. When using EDT piles, the number of overbuilt floors is several times higher comparing with other types of drilling and injection piles with the same parameters (diameter, depth). In this paper, an example of the use of bored-injection piles EDT in the overbuilding of four additional floors of a two-storey public building is presented.
